From Inspiration to Purpose: My Journey to Sharing the Art of Tea | 日本茶の力
Imagine the calm aroma of tea leaves and the peaceful ritual of brewing—a moment where tradition and connection come together. Last week, I shared my story of moving from Japan to Chicago and how my love and curiosity for Japanese culture started an unexpected journey. While sushi and anime are popular worldwide, the quiet beauty of Japanese tea is often overlooked. This inspired me to share the peace and connection that tea can bring.
Join me in exploring how Japanese tea has inspired not only my journey but also a community of connection and mindfulness. In this post, I’ll explain how learning about Japanese tea helped me create a space to share,

How Japanese Tea Inspires Mindfulness and Connection
My journey as an entrepreneur began to take shape when I started studying Japanese tea. I joined the Japanese Tea Advisor program with the Japanese Tea Instructor Association (日本茶インストラクター協会)—a decision that became a turning point for me.

I learned about:
- The history of tea and how it spread globally.
- Japanese Tea’s role as a symbol of cultural connection.
- The art of making Japanese tea and its ties to mindfulness and tradition.
Quiet moments often reminded me that tea isn’t just a drink—it’s a way to slow down, focus, and connect. This new understanding shifted how I saw the world. Tea became a medium for communication, transcending cultures.
Why Sharing Japanese Tea Culture Matters
To share what I learned, I hosted small pop-up events. At first, it was challenging because many people weren’t familiar with Japanese tea or culture. However, as I told stories about tea’s history and meaning, I found ways to connect with them. These events weren’t just about selling tea—they were about creating shared experiences.
Over time, my focus shifted from selling handmade products to building relationships. These conversations showed me that people were eager to learn about Japanese culture, even if they hadn’t come specifically for tea or products. Sharing stories and building connections became the heart of my work.

What Makes Japanese Tea Unique?
Japanese tea represents so much of what I value: mindfulness, tradition, and the joy of sharing. Here’s what makes it special:
- Variety of Teas: From matcha (powdered green tea) to sencha (steamed green tea), each type of tea carries its flavor and story.
- Cultural Significance: Tea ceremonies reflect respect, harmony, and mindfulness, emphasizing the beauty of simplicity.
- Health Benefits: Rich in antioxidants, Japanese tea supports overall wellness and encourages mindful living.
Tea invites us to slow down, enjoy the present moment, and connect with others. For me, teaching Japanese tea isn’t just about sharing knowledge—it’s about creating spaces where people can experience these values firsthand.
